Intex Aqua Fish, A Mid-range Affordable Beast Running Sailfish OS

It is actually “Aqua [Space] Fish”, instead of Aquafish! Since Intex dubs their products Aqua Something! It’s their style.

The Aqua Fish is following Jolla’s “traditional” design which was found on the Jolla smartphone.

The phone sports a namely modest but practically beastly (according to my testings), Quadcore 1.3Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 (Don’t let the 200-series name fool you. We’ll get to that in a moment!), 2GB od DDR3 RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 5″ HD IPS display panel with a resolution of 1280*720, a 2500mAh battery and Dual-SIM support, all packaged in a neat package of black and orange plastic.

Now, the SoC… You have probably already lost interest by reading the magic “212” number and closed the page but if you’re still with me, I can assure that in my testings, it performed really well without an issue. It feels really fast even while running Android applications. I have not tested any heavy games on it but it should not be a big problem either.

The 2GB of RAM (Yes please) helps a lot with the multitasking issues that we faced on Jolla smartphone lately due to the RAM being 1GB, and that HD screen pops the colors like never before when compared to the Jolla Smartphone (Being the only official device out there running Sailfish OS at the moment).

The build quality isn’t final yet, but it’s not half bad either.

As for the availability and pricing: The phone will be available in India at the moment, no further plans are yet announced to expand the availability into Europe, but the phone supports European bands so that is definitely good news.
Some unofficial sources are claiming that the device will be available on Snapdeal from May 2016 for around 146 USD. I have no idea how true/false that information is but I will update this space as I get more information. So do NOT count any of that as legit information until it is actually confirmed.

Looking at that price, I would say it is a pretty competitive choice for a phone like this. Especially for loyal Jolla Users (a little bit of pun intended) who are looking for a refresh. Even though it isn’t a flagship device, but it seems to be their strategy to get back into the market after Jolla’s difficult era of constant problems for a while.
